Activities at the University of Ilorin have been paralysed as members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions joined the nationwide indefinite strike.
Union members staged a peaceful protest at the university’s main gate, displaying placards demanding fair treatment, payment of withheld salaries, and a 45 per cent salary increase, rejecting the Federal Government’s proposed 30 per cent increment.

SSANU Chairman, Falowo Olushola, said the strike was triggered by the government’s failure to conclude and implement the 2009 agreement with non-teaching staff, despite multiple ultimatums.
Similarly, NASU Chairman, Suberu Ibrahim, described the action as part of a long-standing struggle, citing unresolved negotiations dating back years and unpaid salary arrears.
Both unions insisted the strike is indefinite and comprehensive, warning that university operations would remain grounded until their demands are fully met.
