Kwara Central Senator Saliu Mustapha Resigns From APC, Says New Political Direction Necessary

Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kwara State.

In a statement personally signed by the Senator, he said the decision followed weeks of consultations with political stakeholders, supporters, constituents and other well-meaning residents of the state. Mustapha explained that the decision was not taken lightly, but became necessary after reviewing recent developments within the party.

The Senator said politics should be anchored on the principles of people, purpose and service, stressing that when a political platform no longer aligns with those values and the aspirations of the people being represented, seeking a new political direction becomes the honourable option.

He expressed appreciation to the national leadership of the APC, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the opportunities and relationships he enjoyed during his time in the party.

Mustapha, however, assured his constituents and supporters that his decision to leave the APC would not affect his commitment to representing the interests of Kwara Central.

He pledged to continue working for the development of Kwara Central, Kwara State and Nigeria, while maintaining a representation focused on the welfare of the people.

The senator also expressed gratitude to those who had supported him throughout his political journey, promising to sustain the trust placed in him as he begins what he described as a new course in his political career.

The development comes as political activities and realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians and political groups across the country reviewing their affiliations and strategies.
