The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has called on employers of corps members to strengthen collaboration with the scheme to improve the welfare and workplace experience of serving youths.

The call was made at the 2026 NYSC Corps Employers Workshop held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Al-Hikmah University, Adewole Housing Estate, Adeta, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The workshop, themed “Fine-Tuning Stakeholders’ Collaboration to Enhance Corps Members’ Welfare and Workplace Experience,” was held simultaneously across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

Representing the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, Mr Syeppe Cletus said the success of the scheme depends largely on effective collaboration between the NYSC and corps employers.

He urged employers to provide meaningful job assignments, mentorship, supervision, accommodation, transportation support, healthcare services, and a safe working environment for corps members.

Cletus noted that the workplace remains a major platform where corps members acquire practical experience, develop professional skills, and contribute to national development.

He also encouraged employers to expose corps members to skills such as digital competence, leadership, teamwork, and communication to improve their employability beyond the service year.

Meanwhile, the NYSC Kwara State Coordinator, Mr Ola-Oluwa Onifade Joshua, described the scheme as a major contributor to national development since its establishment in 1973.

Onifade commended the Kwara State Government for being the largest employer of corps members in the state, supporting their deployment across sectors including education, health, construction, environment, and finance.

He stressed that ensuring the safety, development, and welfare of corps members requires the collective effort of all stakeholders.

The workshop featured presentations by Professor Akinnubi Olaolu Paul of the Faculty of Education, Al-Hikmah University, and Olaitan Kolawole, Assistant CDS Coordinator.

Other dignitaries present included the Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Professor Lateef Folorunso Oladimeji, and Chairman of the Organising Committee, Mrs Olubunmi Akinola.
